Geeking Out

So true, Mr. Pegg. So true.

Letting your geek flag fly is getting accepted more and more these days. It’s no longer taboo to love something intensely and unashamedly. I will fully admit to being a geek/nerd-girl or whatever you want to call it. If I love something, I’m gonna love the CRAP out of it. I’m trying to distract myself from bouncing off the walls at the moment, so I have compiled this quick short-list of things I love to geek out over... There are soooo many more things that could be added to this (geeky t-shirts, office supplies, the costume I want to make, Steampunk, etc.), but it's a decent start.... Enjoy.

- Doctor Who – I love this show. A lot. A lot a lot. This show has found its way into my daily life... J now gets greeted with “Hello, Sweetie” when he gets home from work, “EXTERMINATE” is the most shouted thing in our house, many things are explained away simply as “wibbly wobbly timey wimey” or “humaney wumaney”... David Tennant and Matt Smith are in a BIG tie for my favorite Doctor. I love them both in different ways. And I am SO very sad that Matt Smith’s time is up. But as J keeps reminding me – I was pissed when Tennant left and ended up loving Smith, so I just need to chill out. And I’m trying. But I foresee an ugly cry when he regenerates into whoever is taking his place.

- Harry Potter – Books, movies, games... Doesn’t matter, I love it. I’ve read the books and seen the movies about eleventy-billion times. I may seriously get something in both my eyes when Hermione tells Harry she’ll go with him to the forest at the end of the last movie. EVERY TIME I WATCH IT! Rumor has it that they are opening a Wizarding World of Harry Potter out here. I WILL BE GOING. And I will get a wand!! And I don’t care how many times J calls me a giant nerd!!

- Archery – This is (slightly surprisingly) a TOTAL geek sport. Our Wednesday night league has been referred to as “A bunch of nerds, hanging out, and shooting” and it is oh, so true. But I don’t care – I love it. And we’ve met a lot of really great people because of it

- Big Bang Theory – Oddly enough, I resisted this show. Maybe because the first episode shown to me didn’t immediately grab my interest enough, but now I have seen every episode so many times I can recite them. While I love all the characters, my favorite will always be Sheldon.... Oh, Sheldon. How I adore you, you crazy crazy man.

- Game of Thrones – Or as I like to call it “Everyone Dies.” These books and the show can be an emotional roller coaster if you allow yourself to get attached to ANYONE. But sometimes with the deaths there are ones that you are wishing for and wishing for and the payoff (albeit occasionally anticlimactic and not nearly violent enough) can be oh, so sweet. And it’s just fun to lose yourself in that other world... Just for a little while.

- Once Upon A Time – My sister recommended this show and I proceeded to watch EVERY EPISODE while I was off for Christmas this past December so that I was ready for the new season that ended recently. It is a wonderful show – I just love all the fairytale stuff. J doesn’t get it, but that’s fine. This one can be just for me to be all girly over...

- Converse – Yes, I am aware that they have no support and are probably HORRIBLE for my feet. But I LOVE them! I’ve been wearing Converse since I turned 11 and I just can’t stop. I try other shoes occasionally, but I also go running back. I love walking up to a WALL ‘O CONVERSE in a shoe store.... Sooooo much loveliness...

- Harvey’sSeatbelt Bags – Now, I have tried (somewhat successfully) to get this obsession under control. I still adore these bags in a slightly insane way, but I no longer MUST BUY EVERY BAG!!! Except for the canvas totes they keep coming out with! Originally there was just one a year – for summer. So I had to have the new one each year. Now they come out with a new one ever few months!! And I have to have them ALL!!! I’m still heartbroken that I missed the one with Lola printed on it....

- Super vague awesomeness that I’m not allowed to talk about just yet – yep. That. And try as I might to distract myself with some of the other things I am geeking out about, this is all that keeps popping back into my head. Wish I could give details, but I am not at liberty to discuss it. Just know that something awesome is starting. The first part is at the end of this month. With a possibility of more in the future. And it’s awesome. And WAY outside of my comfort range. And I have not stopped bouncing off the walls since I first found out about it LAST NIGHT. It has taught me that you never get anything without trying... And that it’s not dumb to want and try and do if it ends up making you feel super awesome and special.

Did I mention it’s awesome?

Excuse me as I go dissolve into a puddle of excited nerves!!

Repeatedly.

Things I Want

I have wanted a Tablet for quite a while now... I’ve talked about it a little bit on here... I see all these pretty shiny handheld computers and the green-eyed monster starts poking me in the back. But I just couldn’t justify spending so much money on one. Even the less expensive versions with less storage space are in the $400 up range.

Then there was the fire sale on the HP Touchpad that I missed out on... $150 is totally within my impulse buying range. But they went in a blink of an eye – and continue to! I keep missing them by seconds...

Today Amazon unveiled the new Kindle Fire. I. WANT.

It’s only $199 – not much above my impulse buying range... It’s full color, touch screen, has what they are saying is a super-fast browser, unlimited cloud storage for Amazon content... You can play with your Apps on it, watch shows/movies, browse the internet, check your e-mail... Oh, and it’s still a Kindle, so you can read on it too...

I have generally leaned more towards the slightly large Tablets – the 10.1 inch screens instead of the ones that are Kindle-sized – in my jealousies and pining. But for some reason because this is a Kindle on steroids, I don’t have a problem with it being smaller... In fact, it’s kind becoming a selling point because it will just take my Kindle’s current permanent place in my purse without taking any extra space...

I may be adding my name to the pre-order waiting list before the day is out...

Since I immediately titled this post “Things I Want” (that’s right, I recklessly title my posts before I write them... I like to live on the edge.), I feel compelled to list more things that I would like in my possession:

- The two new Limited Edition Harvey’s bags that are probably already sold out... (And this one because it's super cute...)

- The Hunger Games movie to be out – now that I have read the books (almost – I am more than halfway through the third one) I am slightly obsessed with seeing it come to life

- My new business cards

- A vacation – it’s been way too long. My last “real” vacation was the cruise we took for our honeymoon... 6 years ago. I would love to go back to Alaska.

- A new laptop. With the newest everything on it. In red, please.

- Cookie dough cupcakes – I realize that I am fully capable of making these at home and that is what I will have to do in order to have them, but I would like them to just magically appear. It would be awesome.

- A house closer to my Bestie. We’re there all the time anyway... Why not just live closer? Plus, their area has way more restaurants and shops... I really like it there.

- A new car. Don’t get me wrong – I still adore my IS250, but I still have another YEAR before I get to order a new car. This will be the longest I have ever had a car... (Boo-hoo first-world problems...) I think I might get a Highlander next...

- My Rifleman patch. We took a rifleman course a couple weekends ago and while I was able to secure the status of “Sharpshooter,” I didn’t make it up to “Rifleman.” It’s the elite. We are going to sign up again next month. I will get it this time. I fully plan on buying a jacket just so I have something to attach the patches to and I will wear it everywhere. For bragging rights.

One of the phases of the test. I'm the one in white. My friend/coworker is the one next to me. And J is the gray edge of shirt on my other side...

- The weather to continue getting cooler. I am so not a summer person and it has been really nice not to have to crank the AC as much to be happy...

- Oh... and World Peace.

What are you wanting right now?

Randomness...

- J has been working nights... Oh - and days too. It sucks. I get to see him for about an hour or two every night between when I get home and when he leaves again... And most of the time he gets back home before I leave for work in the morning... He doesn’t work full days at work - just enough time to get things prepped for the night jobs... It seriously sucks. The two worst things are: 1. He is pretty much incapable of sleeping during the day so he doesn’t get much sleep all week and 2. I stay up too late and sleep like crap when he’s not there and then I don’t get much sleep all week either.

Needless to say (which apparently means NOTHING because people always follow that up with what they were going to say anyway.... Yes, I just irritated myself...) that by the time the weekend rolls around we are both grumpy. At least it’s only going on until SEPTEMBER! I don’t know if we can take another month and a half of this... SIGH

And it's been making me slack off on all of my "social networking" because the last thing I want to do with my small amount of time with him is stare at my computer.... But I miss being up to date on everyone and updating my little blog here, so I'm trying to get back on top of it all...

- We went out on our friend’s boat and had a lovely time. I even jumped in open ocean... With sharks and creatures and not being able to see or touch the bottom or anything... It was super cold and I pretty much only did it for the picture and to say that I did...

I may or may not vaguely be drowning J... It's hard to tread water while posing for a picture...

We found a Michael Jackson impersonator while we were in Long Beach for lunch... Dude had on so much makeup that everyone who saw the pictures thought it was a statue...

- My body hurts more from the first three days of my new workout than they did from the entire 9 weeks of my previous workout... I had been wanting to try P90X for a while, but didn’t want to shell out the money for it... J has been trying to get himself motivated to work out again and decided that he wanted to try it, so we got it. Unfortunately with him working weird hours, we can’t work out together like we had originally planned, but I didn’t want to keep putting it off. Now I will work out while he is taking his “before work nap” after I get home... And he can work out whenever he feels like it... haha

I don’t know how “ripped” I’m gonna get, but I am most definitely feeling it after three workouts... I like that it’s really your own pace... “Chest and Back” was basically a ton of pull-ups (I do a modified version using bands since we don’t have a pull-up bar in our living room...) and push-ups. Next was “Plyometrics” or “Jump Training” and then “Arms and Shoulders...” Today is going to be Yoga. And for each part of the exercises, you just do as many as you can... And then try to do more next time...

But I seriously can’t lift my arms right now.... And the stretching in yoga is either gonna feel really good or it’s going to really hurt. Or both.....

- Oh - and BTW - I had already lost 24 pounds from the previous 30-Day Shredding and EA Active-ing... I have found that there is not much that can instantly brighten my day as quickly as fitting into a smaller size of pants...

- But I felt REALLY lame when a guy in one of the workouts with a prosthetic half leg was doing WAY better than me on some of the exercises... Oh well... I’ll get there.

- Finally tried a frozen yogurt place by my bff’s house that may very well be a rival for Yogurtland and Cherry on Top for me... They have this amazingly delicious Black Cherry Tart... And their toppings are awesome... My favorites are the cut up Rice Krispie Treats and cut up Ho-hos... SO yummy. I can’t believe we didn’t go try it out sooner!

- True Blood is back and “lost little Eric” is cracking me up... I am definitely not upset to see an “Eric-heavy” season... Just sayin’... I love me some Eric Northman. Plus, Alexander Skarsgard might someday be my best friend...

- J and I bought Vibram FiveFingers... I got the women’s Bikila LS. I can’t remember what J’s are called. We have a lot of friends that swear by these shoes for running, walking, jogging, hiking... So we decided to give them a try. I was a lot more wary of them because I am generally disgusted by toe socks and feet... They are actually surprisingly comfortable.

I bought them at REI specifically because REI has such a good return policy. If I end up absolutely hating them, I can take them back... They seemed to be good during my workouts...

- I bought a cowboy hat... A second thing that I never thought I would purchase... But I am really pale and burn really easily, so I decided that I needed a nice hat with a wide brim to help protect my fragile skin... I like it; I think I picked a pretty good one...

- I finally met my new boss... He was in one day that I had taken a vacation day and then wasn’t in again for two weeks... Seems like a nice guy - although, I have only spoken to him for 10 seconds so far...

- I bought “Alice, The Madness Returns” for my PS3... It’s a creepy, twisted, and entertaining take on the old Alice in Wonderland story line... It’s a very pretty game and fun to play. And her costumes are AWESOME. I so want to go as her for Halloween, but I don’t think anyone would get it...
 Image from here.

- I’ve been entertaining myself by playing with the Zombiebooth app for my phone... You take a picture of yourself (or someone else) and it turns them into a zombie. I didn't even have to make an angry face - it did it for me... And it moves around and growls and screams... SUPER creepy. My bff has told me that I cannot send any more because they really scare her... Maybe I’ll do my makeup like one of the zombie pictures for Halloween instead...
If I ever actually look like this, I fully expect J to put two bullets right between my eyes... I would do the same for him...

- I love my new Harvey’sSeatbelt Bag... They had a sale and a bag that I had been wanting (but not wanting to spend that much money on) was 50% off! I was legally REQUIRED to purchase it... Plus, I needed a new briefcase for work, and it is the perfect size... And look how pretty it looks with Lola...

- I found jellies at my grocery store! I feel like a little kid again when I put them on... They make me smile. I’m going to go get more colors! For $2, how can you not??

- I saw a little girl - couldn’t have been more than 8 years old - at the store the other day with her parents... She was wearing short shorts, an off-both-shoulders top with chain straps on her shoulders, and knee-high Converse... It was totally the uniform of the “Prostitot”. And TOTALLY not right... Why do parents let their young children dress like that? They are the ones that purchase the clothing and have the final say, right?

- I got a new water bottle that I think is really cool and I like it a lot... Kinda lame to get excited about a water bottle, but what can you do? Ha
LifeFactory 22 Ounce Glass Water Bottle - I got mine on Amazon.

- I am both extremely excited and extremely sad about the last Harry Potter movie... It looks SO good, but it’s the last one!!!!!!! I get chills when I see certain parts of the previews for the last one. I’m not planning on going to the midnight premiere or even going this weekend... I like to wait until it calms down a little bit so that I don’t have to be crammed into a too-full movie theater with noisy, rude people... I want to be able to enjoy the movie...

- It’s rainy and cool today and it makes me wish I could have spent the whole day cuddling on my couch...

- I bring Lean Cuisines for lunch most days and they have this points rewards program thing right now... I ordered really cute salt and pepper shakers...
 Photo from here.

- I saw the pilot episode of a new show called “Alphas” on SyFy. As much as the way they chose to shorten their network name irritates me, the show looks like it’s going to be really good... It’s about a group of people that have special powers and how they deal with them and the repercussions while also solving crimes...

So there I am... All of my current randomness rolled into one neat package... :-)

Things I Am Loving Right Now

Ok - I have been trapped in my stuffy head for too long and have become cranky while waiting not-so-patiently for my antibiotics to actually work. So I decided to shake myself out of it by thinking of things that do not suck...

- The Rocky Horror Glee Show last night: Other than the fact that I didn’t like Mercedes as Dr. Frank’n’furter, it was really good. Makes me want to watch the movie again - it’s been YEARS.

- Halloween: I love Halloween. Last year my Halloween got ruined by the fact that my darling husband had passed his stomach flu along to me... We didn’t even hand out candy because we felt too crappy to get off the couch. I can’t wait to see all the super cute little munchkins in their costumes! I love it.

- My ear is getting REALLY close to popping: My right ear has been kind of plugged since I got sick, but this past Monday it decided to plug completely. It’s painful and I can’t hear. Today it has “almost” popped a few times. I think I will be able to get it to pop by end of the day!! I am being very optimistic about this because it will make me feel a bazillion times better...

- The Weather: I think we still have a little more rain coming, but for now it’s sunny with a nice chilly bite in the air. It actually feels like fall and I am absolutely loving it.

- Harry Potter: I know the newest movie isn’t quite out yet, but every preview I see for it makes me more and more excited to see it! It’s been too long... I need new Harry Potter!!

- Sims 3: This is a dangerous one for me... I have played past versions of the Sims and I know that this one will suck me right in like the rest. But I have a lot of fun with it... I’m going to get it for my Nintendo DSi so that I can take it with me everywhere... I’m a grown-up child and I don’t care.

- An even closer first step promotion for J than the future supervisor position in the works: They are going to need team leads as the team keeps growing and he has it in the bag. Because he’s awesome... Plus, there’s still the supervisor job on the horizon, so BONUS! Bring on the raises! Kelly wants to stay at home!!

- My new riding gear:

We bought a new (to us) quad a little while back. I can’t wait to get out and ride it so that I can really learn and get good at it. I have all my riding gear now and love it. I have my boots that I have been trying to break in, my helmet, really awesome pants and jersey, gloves that match the pants and jersey, goggles, super cute pink and black houndstooth riding socks, chest protector... I’m ready to go! And I may or may not keep putting it all on and strutting around the house in it because I can’t wait! I may even wear it to work on Friday as my costume...

- The number on the scale slowly moving in the right direction: I have been terrible about working out, but I have been trying really hard to be good about what I eat to make up for it... And I am very happy that the scale is starting to reflect that. I still need to get back into a work-out routine, but at least it’s moving. I am down a total of 18.5 pounds. Still have quite a bit to go, but not too shabby...

- Purple: I don’t know when the purple bug re-bit me. I used to love all things purple and then went through a green phase and then a red phase... Now I’m gravitating back to purple. Pretty much anything in a deep jewel tone is right up my alley, but I am seriously in love with dark purple lately. I have purple Vans that I just absolutely could not live without... (so dramatic...) Purple tops, my glasses are purple... And Harvey’s released a limited edition Seatbelt Bag that is purple and black and would match my Vans perfectly and be super cute to carry for Halloween time and I want it, but am trying REALLY hard to be good and not spend money I don’t need to spend considering I just spent a bundle on all my riding gear......... Sigh. But I want it. (And I just checked and there are only 6 left!!!!! SUPER SIGH.........) **Update: I checked again this morning and there were only 4 left!! I panicked... I decided I would be incredibly bummed to miss this bag, so I ordered it! Eeep. It's just... when it's gone... it's gone forever! I had to do it... Right? haha**

- The Olde Ship: There are two of these in Orange County - one in Fullerton and one in Santa Ana. It’s an English Pub and the food is fantastic. I love their Cornish Pasty (picture beef stew wrapped in pastry, covered in gravy... I am drooling right now)... They also have delicious custard for dessert... Oh man, I am going to have to go there again - SOON.

Ok... Apparently I can’t put off lunch-time any longer. I just made myself so hungry that the only things I can think of to add to this list now are food-related! Ooops... haha

So what are you loving right now??
